Quinn vetoes synthetic gas plant legislation - Springfield, IL - The State Journal-Register: "In his veto message, Quinn noted that when the plant was originally proposed, four utilities in the state were supposed to buy gas produced by it and thus share in its costs.  However, two companies later opted out of the deal, leaving only Nicor and Ameren to buy gas produced by the plant.

The bill that Quinn vetoed would have required Ameren and Nicor to pay 95 percent of the facility’s cost while still only buying 84 percent of the synthetic natural gas it produced.

“That is not a fair deal for ratepayers,” Quinn wrote."
