Clean energy advocates oppose bill - My Northwest Missouri News: Missouri Legislative News: "Clean energy advocates are crying foul over legislative efforts they say will weaken the state’s renewable resources law.
Legislation under consideration in the Missouri House would allow power generated by water running through dams as part of the calculation power companies use to comply with the law. John Hickey of the Sierra Club says when Missouri voters passed the Renewable Energy Standard in 2008, the intent was renewable energy projects to be new.
“Voters voted to say we want an additional 15 percent in clean energy. And that’s what we want is the additional 15 percent in clean energy, and changing the definition is moving the goalpost.”
Hickey says if the legislature allows power companies to figure in existing hydropower plants, the equivalent of three new wind farms will not be built. The group Renew Missouri has filed a complaint with the Public Service Commission accusing Ameren Missouri of trying to skirt the renewable energy standard...a charge the utility denies."
