Missouri lawmakers throw support behind Westinghouse - Pittsburgh Business Times: "Westinghouse’s push for federal funding of its small modular reactor work is getting some Congressional support with a letter from the state’s delegation urging the Department of Energy to fund the project.
The Cranberry-based company is in the running for a second round of DOE small modular reactor investment. A decision is expected next month. The company lost out on an early round of funding handed out last year.
In the bipartisan letter addressed to Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz, Sens.Claire McCaskill and Roy Blunt, along with the state’s eight representatives praise Westinghouse’s experience and expertise in nuclear technology as well as the potential for an SMR to offer another viable option for meeting the country’s energy needs."
